CNC -
Talk

CNC-Talk was originally developed in 1986 due to a complete lack of systems to communicate with CNC controls. To this day it remains a market leading product.

How
It
Works
CNC-Talk for DOS and CNCTalk for Windows is software with an easy
to use menu system that allows for the transferring of programs between the CNC control and
a PC, eliminating the need for manual program entry, and significantly reducing the down time
of the machine for changing of programs.
A CDS AutoSwitch switchbox is connected to a single serial port on the PC. One AutoSwitch switchbox allows up to eight controls to be connected to the PC at one time. A second switchbox can be added allowing a maximum of sixteen controls to be connected to a single serial port at one time. The switchbox is controlled via software, allowing the box to be conveniently located anywhere between the PC and the controls. The maximum cable length on either side of the switchbox is approximately 100m. If the cable is longer, then additional line boosters are required.
The operator selects one of the controls, and prepares the PC to either send or receive a program. Then he goes to the control, and either receives or sends a program to the PC. CNC-Talk maintains individual file lists and configuration settings for each control. The Dos version has built in editors to allow programs to be changed quickly and easily without exiting the program. In addition there are several included file utilities for copying, deleting, renaming, and moving of programs, as well as a backup facility for CNC programs. When using the Windows version pf CNCTalk the Wordpad editor in Windows can be used to Enter/Edit programs and the Windows backup utilities can be used to back up the programs with ease.
A choice of communication modules is provided, including Serial, Parallel, Heidenhaine Emulation, and Mazatrol Emulation. The CNCTalk is used with the CDS Auto-Switch Switchbox or RS232 Isolators and BTR or Current loop converters.
Note: CDS cannot guarantee that no data loss will occur during high speed or dripfeed operation when using CNCTalk for Windows. We cannot obtain gaurantees from Microsoft concerning true data rates on the serial ports and potential data losses.
